INTRO MEME #1

The time has come, my ghostly pals — The Crossing is here! Thanks so much to everyone who applied; we're so stoked to have you. All comms are open for posting as of today; feel free to dive right in! We've just got a few reminders for you, a few updates, and a shiny CR meme to help y'all get the ball rolling.

REMINDERS

A few things to remember as we get started:

• We're all newbies here, so activity this month is check-in only for everyone. Just don't forget that you need to leave a comment on the AC page to check-in; now's a great time to take care of it!


• The network comm ( thecrossing ) supports written communication only to start out with. Feel free to assume your character has received their device (whatever you decide that may be), and perhaps-cryptically briefed on how it works. ("You can use this to stay in touch with the others.") If you need a refresher on the network, check out the Basics section of the FAQ.


• The Ferryman's IC Contact is live — feel free to chat with them if you like! But keep in mind that The Ferryman cannot be contacted via the network at this time, only in-person.


• The TDM is intended to be used for both app rounds within The Cavern: December (that's you guys), and the upcoming round in January. Please keep an eye on it for new toplevels if you're able.

UPCOMING

What's coming down the pipe from us:

• NPC Quests: there are a few more of you than we expected there would be (so exciting!!), so we're working on adding a handful of extra quests so that there's plenty to work with over the next month. We know we're behind on this, so we hope to have the final write-ups for you this week!


• On Saturday, Dec 14th, The Ferryman will make a network post to more properly introduce the Crossing mechanic and to reveal the theme of the first Crossing (scheduled for mid-January). This will be more geared towards characters conversing amongst themselves, but The Ferryman will be available in a limited way to answer questions as well.


• We've recently added a few new items to our calendar, especially around the Crossing event next month & apps (which we've rearranged a bit), so be sure to take a peek!


• We're planning on adding a few more items to the FAQ now that the game is properly getting started, to include some common questions from you guys, as well as to expand on mechanics that have more recently been finalized (the Memory Bank, Rewards, NPC Quests, etc). We'll let everyone know on the mod plurk when those updates are ready, but please do keep asking us questions if you need any clarification at all along the way!

CONTACT: PM is usually the best way to go! i haven't had a plurk in like a hundred trillion years but i made one literally today just in case -- it's radians if that's your vibe and we'll see how it goes! i hang out on discord periodically too, but i can be kind of erratic, so if that's more your speed just lmk
ETC?: i'm ET most of the time, and i got back from vacation *checks notes* two hours ago so i've been mia for a couple days but i'll be sure to hit back some of those TDM threads!!

CHARACTER NAME: Yusuke Urameshi
CANON & CANON POINT: Ch.145 of the YYH manga (his suicide play against Sensui, obviously minus the second resurrection. throwback? i hardly know her!). i sprinkle in some anime here and there when fun and/or funny
FIRST TOLL: His mother's face.

PLANS: Canon doesn't do enough with Yusuke's second death and how it compares/contrasts with his first (much less impulsive, at a time when he values his life much, much more, and with a fuller appreciation of the consequences, but still ultimately a sacrifice for someone else) so HERE I AM. He's at a point where letting go of his life & attachments is going to be much, much harder than the first time around (or at least his desire to let go of everything is much, much lower), and I'm interested in pressing on that a bit -- his instinct will be to white-knuckle his memories as much as possible, but also he has experience with spirits who get stuck or linger because they're holding on too hard. I could see him being swayable one way or the other, or tbh even just being erratic in his decisions about what's worth giving up and what isn't. Let's see where it goes!

CR WISHES:
→ people to help him open up a bit, process all the Sensui shit, etc. he's very boisterous and outspoken, but tends to play his own emotional cards pretty close to the chest.
→ people who want to try and make the Crossings on their own without giving anything up, but who might need help doing it. ya boi's a brawler and loves having excuses to do things without him needing to interrogate his own feelings on it too much.
→ but also call him out on his fence-sitting!! at some point you gotta decide what you want kiddo
→ love a good mix of CR his own age he can do the teenage boy thing at, but also people a bit older/calmer/wiser who can help that slowly-maturing piece of him grow
→ idk i'm just excited. come at me

CR OFFERS:
→ shitty teen behavior. he has a lot of pent-up energy, gets bored easily, and desperately does not want to think about how Actually Dead he is. lets throw rocks at wraiths. deface the posters in the city. whatever!!
→ obligatory yusuke loves fighting, come fight him. if you need a sparring partner, a vehicle to blow off some steam, w/e, he will happily fight you literally wherever and whenever. this is how he bonds & is also the easiest way to make friends with him.
→ extremely low stakes negative CR. be an adult and tell him to quit smoking. get into a petty argument with him. it's very easy to annoy him but actually pretty hard to get him to hold a longstanding grudge.
→ manga!Yusuke in particular has much more actual experience interacting with ghosts/helping them move on/investigating their impacts on the living/etc. u wanna talk ghost theories, he's gottem

Yooo. Shonen Jump squad!

Would love to throw Bakugo against Yusuke because I think they'd be fun in so many ways! Bakugo acts like a punk but he's the most strait laced guy ever and will yell at Yusuke for smoking and other delinquent behavior. Plus they can spar and argue about the Crossing strategy! Bakugo will shame fence sitting for sure.

YES i love this!! they're so similar and so different at the same time & THAT'S THE STUFF RIGHT THERE, i think it could be so interesting!!

i also think it would be extremely funny for them to have an impromptu shounen-boy-escort-squad for getting people through the crossings. a couple of the most annoying people you ever met CARRYING THE TEAM.

I wish I could claim to offer up someone who could act more like a mentor or at least an older influence, since Celehar's also got Experience with acting as an agent of death, but given how brash Yusuke is I genuinely don't know how any first impression would go. He's liable to be an assault on all of Celehar's sense of propriety.

i would honestly love love to just bounce them off each other and see what happens!! i've got a special place in my heart for CR that starts out lightly negative/clashing and makes its way to odd couple friendship status

Same! There's something really fun about friendships where you look at them from the outside and wonder how on earth they happened. I'll keep an eye out for chances then, either mutual ghost seeking or catching Yusuke at the vandalizing
