INTRO MEME #1

The time has come, my ghostly pals — The Crossing is here! Thanks so much to everyone who applied; we're so stoked to have you. All comms are open for posting as of today; feel free to dive right in! We've just got a few reminders for you, a few updates, and a shiny CR meme to help y'all get the ball rolling.

REMINDERS

A few things to remember as we get started:

• We're all newbies here, so activity this month is check-in only for everyone. Just don't forget that you need to leave a comment on the AC page to check-in; now's a great time to take care of it!


• The network comm ( thecrossing ) supports written communication only to start out with. Feel free to assume your character has received their device (whatever you decide that may be), and perhaps-cryptically briefed on how it works. ("You can use this to stay in touch with the others.") If you need a refresher on the network, check out the Basics section of the FAQ.


• The Ferryman's IC Contact is live — feel free to chat with them if you like! But keep in mind that The Ferryman cannot be contacted via the network at this time, only in-person.


• The TDM is intended to be used for both app rounds within The Cavern: December (that's you guys), and the upcoming round in January. Please keep an eye on it for new toplevels if you're able.

UPCOMING

What's coming down the pipe from us:

• NPC Quests: there are a few more of you than we expected there would be (so exciting!!), so we're working on adding a handful of extra quests so that there's plenty to work with over the next month. We know we're behind on this, so we hope to have the final write-ups for you this week!


• On Saturday, Dec 14th, The Ferryman will make a network post to more properly introduce the Crossing mechanic and to reveal the theme of the first Crossing (scheduled for mid-January). This will be more geared towards characters conversing amongst themselves, but The Ferryman will be available in a limited way to answer questions as well.


• We've recently added a few new items to our calendar, especially around the Crossing event next month & apps (which we've rearranged a bit), so be sure to take a peek!


• We're planning on adding a few more items to the FAQ now that the game is properly getting started, to include some common questions from you guys, as well as to expand on mechanics that have more recently been finalized (the Memory Bank, Rewards, NPC Quests, etc). We'll let everyone know on the mod plurk when those updates are ready, but please do keep asking us questions if you need any clarification at all along the way!

CHARACTER NAME:Allynbee "Lyn" Shepard
CANON & CANON POINT: Mass Effect, post ME3 (Synthesis ending)
FIRST TOLL: Lyn has forgotten how she died, this time.

PLANS: Having died once already and unable to remember to remember any sort of afterlife, Lyn is going to have some difficulty adjusting. She will do her best to help any souls that will allow her to and do her best to work towards stability. The idea of losing her memories is terrifying though she will not share those feelings with much of anyone.

CR WISHES: Lyn is usually professional, but overall pretty compassionate and helpful. She’ll likely be a little aimless now that there’s not an active military conflict happening but I would love to explore the following
Learning Normalcy-
Lyn is a military brat that enlisted the second she was able to! How do you people outside of that? She has no clue and I would love her to interact with folks who encourage her as a person and not just a Awe-Inspiringly competent soldier. Be forewarned: Lyn will quickly warm up to anyone who obviously comes from a military background and anyone who reminds her of her crew.
Religion/Spirituality-
Lyn has known religious people and held deep admiration for some. She hasn’t really answered these questions for herself and I think it would be interesting to explore given her unique circumstances.
Negative CR-
Lyn has canonically been referred to as “Queen of the Girl Scouts” by one of her more cynical crew members and generally does her best to do right and be fair to everyone. I’m quite sure that will get on some folk's last nerve. Also, all that patience has limits, so if you’re out here hurting folks or otherwise being a dick, you might see why I refer to her as ‘mostly’ Paragon. (You know, after discussion)

CR OFFERS:
Mentoring! -
Gosh there are a lot of teenagers and young adults here, and Lyn has plenty of life experience to draw upon to help lead The Youth

Otherwise, Lyn is an approachable, solution-oriented person who likes to look out for people. I’m excited to explore whatever pops up!

Definitely not military, but Celehar has a similar history of putting his job before everything else that might at least have an echo of familiarity! and he'll be doing his best as a spiritual resource

I love this! This Shep is a Thanemancer, so I think part of her journey could very easily include a lot of philosophical talk - now that she doesn't immediately have to save the galaxy.

Did she take the Kai Leng Renegade interrupt? lmao I haven't played ME3 in years but that just popped into my head as such a satisfying moment.

Need would be inclined to think "Shepard" is literal, like, "sheep-herder", and that could be a bit of who's-on-first! My old lady is the sort who likes to ask what people really want out of life (or.... afterlife?), when they haven't been able to consider it for themselves, but doesn't have an answer if it's turned on her.

Oh absolutely! He stabbed my frog husband (Thane) - He had to go!

I love the occupation confusion, though I think she and Lyn will have some interesting convos - she's nothing else if not A Helper, so if she ever gets a whiff that Need is having trouble with stuff she's going to do her best to fix it/help her get closure. (Mostly because it also means no one will ask her about her issues ^^; )

As for 'learning normalcy', Kel is a master there for it. Should Lyn want to be around the teen, he would gladly teach her things like 'games' and 'how to relax' because he's doing his best not to let this place make him too sad.

As for mentoring- more than open to have Kel learn from others!
